NEW research reveals it takes women ten hours and eight retailers to find their perfect festive outfit.
Here, Crystal Cansdale from TopCashback, which carried out the survey, gives tips for finding the perfect dress while on a budget.
- Keep an eye on prices: It doesn’t have to be a mid-season or end-of-year sale for shops to drop prices. Use price-drop alert sites such as Love Sales or Notifyy, which let you add items from online retailers to your wish list and will send you an alert when the price goes down.
- Shop around: Once you’ve found the perfect dress, check if it is sold anywhere else at a cheaper price. It may also be that a different store has the dress you’re looking for and you can use a voucher code.
- Check for a minimum spend for free delivery: If there is, order enough to hit the minimum amount and return items you don’t want. Or you could team up with a friend or colleague.
- Be sociable: Follow your favourite sellers on social media, sign up for newsletters and engage with them. Many brands throw private flash sales to their followers as a reward.
- Waiting game: Find the outfit, add it to your shopping basket and sit on your hands for a couple of days. Retailers see shoppers’ activity, so many will nudge you with an email, including a discount code.
- Get money back: By signing up to a cashback site, members can get a percentage of their spending back.
On average, they get around 7.5 per cent of their spend, but it can be as much as 20 per cent by clicking through TopCashback to the retailer and shopping as normal.
