Here are five tips, courtesy of online marketplace Paperclip, that can make your December pay cheque stretch that little bit further this Christmas.
- Whip out your loyalty card – Lots of us rack up loyalty points on things such as a Tesco Clubcard throughout the year but never spend them. Make sure you take advantage.
- Sell last year’s gifts online – It’s a way to raise cash by getting rid of unused and unwanted stuff. The better the condition the items are in, the more you’ll make.
- Become an exclusive member – Lots of big brands and fashion labels have membership clubs you can join to get the best deals. You can usually sign up for free online and it is a great way of keeping an eye on top discounts.
- Shop around – Even if you see something reduced in price, it always pays to compare prices elsewhere to make sure you’re getting a great deal.
- Shop second-hand – You can save a tidy sum on gifts for the family by avoiding the big retailers and buying your presents second-hand instead.
On some websites you can even haggle over the price to knock it down even more.
