LOVELY BUBBLY

Lidl launches a MAGNUM of Prosecco for £12.99 – but is it worth it?

The bargain supermarket's Champagne and Prosecco Magnums launched in stores on Thursday and are available while stocks last

LIDL is selling a new giant bottle of Prosecco that's more than TWICE the size of a normal bottle of fizz for £12.99 - just in time for Christmas.

Most bottles of fizz contain about 750ml, while a magnum usually has 1.5 litres.

Lidl's Prosecco DOC Magnum comes from Veneto in Italy and is already available to buy in Lidl stores across the UK.

Richard Bampfield, Lidl's wine expert describes the bubbles as "lovely and light, with a moreish pear-scented quality."

The bargain supermarket's Prosecco Magnum is a slightly better value than a similar offer at rival Aldi, with half a litre of Aldi’s magnum jeroboam Prosecco costing £6.60 - £2 more than Lidl's.

But a regular 75 cl bottle of Allini Prosecco from Lidl usually cost £5.75 for one.
This means it will cost you less to buy two bottles of normal fizz rather than a supersize one for the same amount of Prosecco.

Earlier this month, Morrisons was also selling a giant bottle of fizz for just £10 - so it might be worth shopping around in the run-up to Christmas to make sure there is not better offer around.

Of course, you could just buy the bottle for the pure novelty.

It's also worth noting Lidl's Prosecco Magnum is more premium and has a higher classification than its core range, which explains its slightly higher price.

If you're looking to impress your guests, a 1.5 litre bottle of Henri Delattre Champagne, is also currently available at Lidl.

In September, we revealed how shoppers can now buy a super-sized Prosecco flute that holds an entire 750ml bottle.

But that might not be the best way to drink your new massive bottle of bubbles.

Apparently the best glass to drink bubbly out of it's a tulip-shaped wine glass and not a champagne flute, according to experts.

Despite Britain’s passion for fizz, it turns out many of us are actually letting bottles of bubbly go to waste due to incorrect pouring methods.

Over 40 per cent of Brits spill Prosecco over the glass when they pour, according to a survey of 2,000 drinkers by Asda - here's how to it correctly.
