Amazon accused of ‘ruining Christmas’ after customers receive items without any packaging

The online giant is cutting back on the amount of cardboard it uses to deliver items - but has left many furious by spoiling surprises for Christmas

AMAZON has "ruined Christmas" according to customers who have received deliveries with no packaging.

Many customers have taken to social media to complain that items ordered for Christmas have arrived without a cardboard box or paper wrapping -  leaving potential present surprises spoiled.

In the past, the online retail giant has often been accused of using too much packaging with its deliveries - but it seems it has gone too far the other way for some customers.

Mum Lesley Ewing tweeted a picture of a new Xbox with the delivery label stuck straight on the box and wrote: "Thank you for nearly ruining a child's Christmas #bahhumbg."

Mandy Squire said: "Absolutely fuming with @AmazonUK ordered a surprise Christmas present and it arrived just as it was, with the brown cardboard wrapping.

"So the person who was supposed to be getting it as surprise saw it when it was delivered! Furious!

"You've ruined Christmas!"

Another annoyed customer wrote: "So mad with you right now! Delivering unpackaged Christmas gift for my boy which he has seen! #RuinedChristmassurprise.

When should I put the Christmas tree up and when is the start of advent?

A spokesman for Amazon told The Sun Online it was working to reduce the amount of cardboard and paper it uses for deliveries but customers can still get items in the usual packaging by selecting the right option.

The "Ship in Amazon box" option is available at no extra cost, while the price you pay for gift wrapping will depend on the item and will be shown at the check-out.

He said: "Our Ships in Own Container option means that the product box has been tested and certified to be shipped without an additional box, to avoid unnecessary packaging.

"Should you wish to keep your purchase a surprise, please either select the option “ship in Amazon box” or “this is a gift” at checkout."
