CHRISTMAS is coming, so make sure your grocery bill isn’t getting fat.

  1. Snap up some brill Black Friday bargains. Many supermarkets are joining in with next Friday’s sales bonanza, meaning plenty of cut-price food and drinks. Morrisons has launched its pre-Black Friday sales and this year Lidl is taking part too.
  2. You don’t need to splash out on posh grub to have a cracker of a Christmas. Many taste tests rated fare from discount stores such as Aldi and Iceland as better than big-name brands. For inspiration, feast your mince pies on .
  3. Online shoppers are just a click away from a happy Christmas with a little organisation. Start an online festive basket now and drop in bargains when you spot them. But make a note of end dates so you don’t miss out.
  4. Bulk-buy now when you spot a great deal. Lots of shops already have offers on Chrimbo treats that have long use-by dates, such as crisps, nuts or booze. Grab them while you can and stash them for a Santastic Christmas.
  5. Nerves of steel to bag a great deal? If you can bear to wait until Xmas Eve, there will be massive discounts of up to 80 per cent off fresh food. Just remember it falls on a Sunday so trading hours are shorter – and there’s no guarantee you’ll get what you want.
  6. Not happy with your bank? Get some welcome extra cash to splurge by switching. Many banks offer great welcome incentives of up to £150 free cash, which can cover a hefty chunk of the Christmas food shop.
  7. Fab fizz will add some seasonal sparkle – especially when you’ve bagged a bargain. This year there’s a bubbly price war on, with stores offering champagne for less than a tenner. Pick up bulk-buy deals to give as gifts too.
  8. Layer up on savings by using a cashback credit card and shopping through a cashback site. Use them even when bagging your festive food. offers from £6.25 to £20 cash back on certain grocery stores.
  9. When buying your festive food, check out stores such as TK Maxx and Wilko. You may not normally think of them for food shopping, but they have amazing offers in-store on tempting seasonal treats.
  10. Want to be really thrifty? Invite the family round for a traditional get-together where everyone brings one item for the Christmas dinner, such as the starter or drinks. It brings everyone together and saves a small fortune.
  11. For a money-saving tip that’s no turkey, grab joints of the Chrimbo staple in the week after the big day and freeze them for a healthy meal all-year round.
  12. Use the Boxing Day sales to grab delicious party grub for your New Year’s bash too. A feast of fabulous foods will be heavily reduced but perfect for parties.

'It's surreal we scooped £100K for mortgage'

WHEN lucky Kenny Ingram was told he had scooped £100,000 thanks to Sun Savers, he thought he was the victim of a SCAM.

The engineer, from Kirkcaldy, Fife, was one of thousands of entries in our cash giveaway back in September — and it was the first contest he had ever entered.

And if you want to be as happy as Kenny, don’t forget to enter our new competition on the left.

Like the 39-year-old dad to Grieg, 7, and Corey, 3, you could be on the receiving end of a call that is sure to make your Christmas.

Kenny said: “I buy a Sun every day for work and my wife Suzanne told me about the offer.

“It was free to enter so I thought it was worth a shot. I had never entered any competitions. I got a phone call saying I’d won 100 grand and I thought it was a scam.

“I was eating my tea and thought, ‘Aye, alright’, I thought it was a bank swindle.

“The next day I phoned The Sun and got put through to promotions and it was answered by the same woman who had spoken to me before.

“I just didn’t believe it - it was a bit surreal and still is.”

The dad-of-two said the prize will help him and wife Suzanne, 41, pay off a huge chunk of their mortgage.

He added: “We’ve stayed here for seven years so it couldn’t have come at a better time.

“It has all tied in perfectly.”
