Ikea triggers Christmas tree price war with 6-foot Nordman firs for just £5 with voucher

The retailer's popular offer is back, rewarding customers who buy a tree for £25 with a £20 voucher to spend in store

IKEA has started a fresh Christmas tree price war with its annual deal on six foot firs.

The deal, which effectively brings the price down to £5 a tree, snatches trade away from garden centres who usually charge around £40 to £50 for one of the same size.

From November 23 up to December 23, the retailer will be giving all customers a £20 voucher when they buy a £25 tree.

Ikea’s Christmas trees are of the Nordman Fir variety and they are locally sourced from Scotland and Wales.

Nordman Fir trees are recognisable by their darker green foliages and they can often set you back around £40.

On average, they stand at around 6 foot tall, although sizes do vary.

The price is the same for all trees, leaving you free to pick the one that best fits your home and your taste.

How does the Ikea deal work?

YOU can buy a Christmas tree for £5 in all Ikea stores. Here's how it works:

  • Pick up a Christmas tree voucher for £25 at the till.
  • Pick your tree, and hand your voucher over to the sales assistant when paying.
  • In return, you will be given a £20 Ikea voucher, which you will be able to redeem in store between February 5 and April 2 next year.

The £20 discount voucher cannot be used until February 5 and then you have up until April 2 next year to spend it.

It can only be used once per customer, per transaction.

Marcos Tejedor, from Ikea UK and Ireland, said: "There is something quite special about a fresh, real Christmas tree.

"At Ikea, we believe that people shouldn’t have to fork out a small fortune on their tree."

"We’re also proud to be supporting local suppliers, with all our trees being sourced from around the UK.”

Ikea's Christmas tree offer is available in all stores and Order & Collection Points, apart from Stratford City.

DECK THE HALLS Is this the cheapest fake Christmas tree? Argos is selling a 6ft one for £15

The deal is similar to one Ikea as run in previous years and it is expected to be popular again.

So we would advise getting there early if you don't want to miss out.

If you do miss the offer and you're not one for spending a small fortune on a real tree that will only last one Christmas, then an artificial centrepiece is probably the way forward for you.

Buying a fake Christmas tree doesn't have to cost an arm and a leg, with Argos selling a 6ft artificial tree for little over a tenner.
