PARENTS who are worried about giving their children too much sugar this Christmas might want to ditch the chocolate advent calendar and go for something different this year.
Playmobil has created three new Christmas countdown calendars with a toy behind every door, that when played with together create a Christmassy themed scene.
Unlike chocolate advent calendars, children are left with a toy to play with after the festive season.
The three new themes include Royal Ice Skating, Christmas on the Farm and the not-so-festive Jewel Thief Police Operation.
The calendars generally come with three to five figures depending on which one you have, with the other goodies made up of items for the scenery.
Some of the parts are small though, so the calendars come with an age warning and are mostly suitable for children over the age of three.
The Royal Ice Skating scene is made up of toys that feature forest animals who carefully watch over the royal family as they skate in a winter wonderland.
The Jewel Thief Police Operation set comes with a safe that can be used as a money box complete with a lock code.
There are two versions of the Christmas on the Farm set - one suitable for ages four and older and another designed for little ones ages 18 months, so make sure you get the right one for your child.
Even though the calendars are a great chocolate alternative, they do come at a cost.
If you buy them directly from Playmobil, each calendar will cost you £19.99. They are available in stores like Tesco and Smyths Toys for the same price.

Even with the discount, the calendars are more expensive than your typical chocolate calendar that can be bought for as little as £2.
Playmobil has previously launched three other toy advent calendars - so there will now be a selection of six to choose from in shops.
Other brands have also got creative with their advent calendars this year with Asda selling a cheese themed Christmas countdown.
Grown ups can also get their hands on a wine advent calendar from Aldi or Iceland but they'll set you back at least £39.99 each.
