Aldi’s Christmas 2017 advert – Kevin the Carrot returns and this time he’s looking for love

This year, Kevin the Carrot is looking for love - and he's got his eyes on a root vegetable called Katie

FORGET Santa, this year Aldi's Kevin the Carrot only has eyes for Katie.

The spirited little root vegetable is the star of Aldi's Christmas advert for the second year running.

Aldi's Christmas ad starts off where last year's left off, as Kevin is shaken from a snowman by a passing train

Last year, we followed his journey to meet Santa but now it's all about his quest for romance across a table full of festive grub.

The 60 second video is narrated by award-winning actor Jim Broadbent and it will be broadcast for the first time on ITV, tonight at 7.15pm.

Aldi’s new advert picks up with Kevin where we saw him last, as a snowman’s nose. He quickly becomes dislodged by the rumbling of an approaching train.

After jumping aboard, he spots Katie, and, for him at least, it's love at first sight.

Last year, Aldi managed to boost its Christmas sales by 15 per cent, partly due to the popularity of its Christmas advertising campaign.

This year it plans to run advertising on TV, in cinemas and social media.

Eagle-eyed daters may even have spotted Kevin on dating app Happn.

If you're lucky enough to match with the hunky carrot you can strike up a conversation - but remember, ladies must go first.

Adam Zavalis, marketing director at Aldi UK, said: “We launched Kevin last year with the line, heroes are grown, not born.

"And Kevin really did grow into our hero. Our customers took him to their hearts and enjoyed watching his escapades in the run up to Christmas.

“We just had to bring him back again this year to help showcase our latest show-stopping festive range.

"Let’s hope Katie the Carrot loves Kevin as much as we all do.”

The advert also includes subtle nods towards blockbuster films, such as The BodyGuard and Titanic.

The sell-out Plush Kevin The Carrot soft toy will also be returning, joined of course by Plush Katie The Carrot.

The toys launch in stores from 23rd November for £2.99 in support of Aldi’s charity partner, Teenage Cancer Trust.

You'll also be able to purchase themed chocolates as well as a reusable bag that folds up into a carrot shape.
