The simple trick that could save you more than £1,000 a year off your Asda shopping
IF you're a regular shopper at Asda, using its price guarantee policy wisely could save up to £1,200 a year thanks to a very simple trick.
The Asda Price Guarantee means that if your shop isn’t 10 per cent cheaper than the main rivals - Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons or Waitrose - then they’ll give you the difference.
Now bargain hunter and blogger Naomi Willis - the co-founder of - has revealed how customers can save up to £100 per month using the discount.
According to Mrs Willis, the key to save the most is just to plan your shop in advance.
The bargain hunter advised Brits to use the comparison tool on to compare prices across all shops before they buy.
This information then helps you to create a targeted shop to buy a vast number of products at Asda and get the biggest discounts.
For example, the Sun Online looked and compared the prices of a English Breakfast Tea Bags from Twinings.
Asda is currently selling the box for £3.
But both Waitrose and Tesco currently have an offer to get the same box for just £2.50.
Using the Asda Price Guarantee, Asda would need to sell this box of tea bags for £2.25 to be 10 per cent cheaper than at rivals.
As Asda is not 10 per cent cheaper, this would mean an Asda Price Guarantee voucher for the difference would be 75p.
By doing this with every product you could end up saving a tidy sum.
And you can get even bigger saving on multi-buy offers.
Tesco was running a promotion offering five tins of Heinz product for £3, Ms Willis wrote on .
The way Asda sees it, each item cost 60p (£3 divided by five) as it splits the cost between the five products.
Under its own rules, the supermarket will have to match each individual item.
This means Asda would have to sell each tin for 10 per cent less or 54p.
As Asda is selling them for £1.07 there would be a 53p voucher for each tin.
As five tins are included in the deal you would get a £2.65 voucher back.
Of course, the supermarket's price guarantee comes with a few catches.
First of all, you'll need to buy eight or more different items from the supermarket, and at least one must be comparable to an equivalent item sold by a rival.
Meanwhile, when it comes to multi-buys the items included in the offer need to be the same price for Asda to match it.
So taking Tesco's Heinz offer as example, if one tin was 60p and another was 80p - the supermarket would not agree to match prices.
You'll also need an Asda Groceries Home Shopping account to be able to claim any voucher.
Each household can only claim a maximum of 10 vouchers per calendar month, or a maximum value of £100 in vouchers per calendar month.
You could also shop at a different supermarket but if you're loyal to Asda - or it's your closest one - then using this method is a no-brainer.
Of course, Asda's hack is just one way to save money on your food shop and you should avoid buying items just to get the money-back discount.
Ms Willis said that to boost your supermarket savings more you simply need to get into the right habit.
