Aldi has a new £10 chocolate flavoured Christmas wine and we’re not sure what to make of it
The new sweet tipple is one of the latest additions to the dessert wine range at the budget supermarket
THERE'S no doubt about it - we love chocolate and we love wine. But we're not sure that Aldi's new chocolate flavoured wine sounds so appetising.
The budget supermarket has released a new range of sweet dessert wines including the 500ml bottle of Rubis Chocolate Wine for £9.99.
The Sun Online is yet to taste it, but Aldi claims that the 15 per cent strong wine is a "chocolate lover's dream" with hints of smooth dark chocolate, fruits and dried figs.
Even though the wine is new to Aldi this year, it's already scooped a "Silver Outstanding" award at the International Wine & Spirit Competition in 2015.
It's not the only supermarket to sell chocolate flavoured booze as you can get similar drink for less elsewhere.
Sainsbury's is selling a bigger bottle of Chocolate Drop Red Wine with Dark Chocolate, 750ml, for £6 - almost £4 less than the bottle from Aldi.
But we just can't see how a bottle of sweet wine will be able to replace a good old chunk of chocolate.
Another new wine to be added to the line for the festive season is the Sumptuously Rich Pudding Wine, which costs £8.99, and has a strength of 18 per cent.
The rich Muscat was crowned winner of the IWSC Gold award 2017, and Aldi says it has flavours of raisins, figs, dates, toffee and caramel - all of the ingredients of a Christmas pud.
Dessert wines are much sweeter than other wines and are intended to be drunk at the end of the meal.
The German supermarket has also brought back their range of ports for the festive season, also to drink after your Christmas dinner.
The cheapest in the line of booze is the Maynard's Pink Port 500ml which costs £7.99, where as Maynard's 40 Year Old Tawny Port will set you back £29.99 for the 750ml bottle.
If you were hoping to grab a bargain on your port, Aldi rival Lidl is selling seasonal port starting at £6.39 for a 750ml bottle of Armilar Ruby Port, so you're not really getting the cheapest deal at Aldi.

Both wines and the two ports will be available in stores from November 14.
The launch of Aldi's dessert wine range comes as German budget stores Aldi and Lidl are continuing to gain ground on the UK’s big four supermarkets, luring in thousands of cash-strapped shoppers looking for bargains.
Yesterday we reported how Aldi is bringing back the so-called "Big Daddy" - a 16oz or 454g British Rump steak - which will cost meat-lovers just £4.99.
The budget stores have even been given the stamp of approval by posh lifestyle magazine Tatler last week and both supermarkets made it on to the shortlists of the Good Housekeeping Christmas taste test awards.
