WIGGING OUT

How you can make £250 from selling your hair online – but only if you’re blonde

Hair Harvest will buy your hair by the ponytail but you'll earn more if you're naturally blonde

YOU can now make hundreds of pounds by selling your ponytail online - but only if you've got blonde hair.

If you're thinking of chopping off your long locks in favour of a pixie crop, you can make some extra cash by flogging it online.

London based buys your hair off you by the ponytail to make bespoke wigs made from real hair that's ethically sourced.

That means that they know where the hair is coming from and that people are giving up their locks willingly, and they're not being exploited.

Bloomsbury Wigs - the side of the business that makes the wigs - mainly sell to cancer patients who have lost their hair through chemotherapy, alopecia sufferers and members from the trans community.

The amount they will pay you for your hair depends on the length, the colour and the condition.

And they're looking for the most valuable hair which is at least 19 inches long and naturally blonde and worth up to £250.

That's right. If you lighten your hair with bleach then it won't be worth the full whack.

"It's simple supply and demand," Hair Harvest owner Graham Wake told the Sun Online. "Lots of people want lighter hair and naturally blonde hair is harder to come by.

"Ideally we want virgin hair. Good quality, Caucasian hair. We don't really want to make a wig for someone with real hair that has already been damaged by bleach.

"They have to feel as natural as possible.

"There is a lot more dark hair in the market from Asia and China so naturally blonde hair costs more money to buy."

You can still sell your hair if you are a brunette or redhead but you might not be paid as much.

The shortest length of hair they will accept is ten inches, which you can expect to be paid £20 to £60 for.

The quick money earner can be done from the comfort of your own home by putting your hair in a ponytail and cutting it above the band.

Simply pop your ponytail in the post - along with some contact details - and then the experts will assess your hair and see how much it's worth.

"It's more ethical to buy the hair straight from the person who's selling it rather than from a supplier," explained Graham.

"That way we know they've been paid a fair price for it."

Just because you've got long hair doesn't mean that you're guaranteed to get paid.

There's a tough criteria stating that you're hair can't be too dry, can't have too many layers and cannot arrive plaited.

After it's assessed, you will either be sent a cheque in the post or you'll get your hair back if it's not a good enough quality.

Graham, who got into the profession after losing his own hair as a teenager, now manages a team of around 20 people.
