John Lewis is selling a GIN advent calendar – but it’s got a HEFTY price tag
DECEMBER is known as a boozy month but John Lewis has just given us a reason to drink gin everyday - if you can afford it.
The posh retailer is launching an Edinburgh gin calendar with 25 bottles of 5cl of varying flavours.
This includes the original Edinburgh Gin, navy-strength Cannonball Gin and briny Seaside Gin.
Sadly, the posh advent calendar comes with the hefty price tag of £100.
But - based on the gin miniature bottles being priced at £15 for a set of three - it would still save you a small £12 on the actual value of the calendar worth a whopping £112.
It comes as retailers this year make way for more creative calendar varieties from pork scratching, play-doh and beauty, with more and more customers seeking to gift little luxuries right through December.
If you're looking for a boozy but budget alternative to John Lewis' calendar, Aldi is also set to launch a wine advent calendar for £49.99 – which works out at £2 per mini bottle.
The Christmas countdown, which hits stores on November 1, contains 24 bottles of red, white, rose and fizz, with everything from Merlot to Chablis.
Aldi says the advent was created in collaboration with brands such as JP Chenet and Calvet, and totals the equivalent of six full bottles.
What you'll get for the £100 advent gin calendar
THE Edinburgh Gin calendar will give you 25 little bottles of gin.
- 3 x Cannonball Gin ( actual value £15 - based on gin miniatures priced at £15 for set of 3, £5 each)
- 9 x mix of gins including Edinburgh Gin and Seaside Gin (actual value £45 - based on gin miniatures priced at £15 for set of 3, £5 each)
- 13 x different gin liqueurs (actual value £52 - based on set of 3 liqueur gins £12, £4 each)
Total cost £112
Meanwhile, Debenhams launched a £15 pork scratching festive countdown that contains 24 mini bags of gourmet crackling treats.
Six flavours are hidden behind the doors, including Pigs In Blankets, Low & Slow BBQ, Maple, Black Pepper & Sea Salt, Salt & Vinegar and Perfectly Salted.

Safe Drinking Guidelines: The Facts
The Chief Medical Officers (CMO) guideline for both men and women states that:
- To keep health risks from alcohol to a low level it is safest not to drink more than 14 units a week on a regular basis
- 14 units is the equivalent of six glasses of 13 per cent wine
- If you regularly drink as much as 14 units per week, it’s best to spread your drinking evenly over three or more days
- If you have one or two heavy drinking episodes a week, you increase your risk of death from long-term illness and injuries
- The risk of developing a range of health problems (including cancers of the mouth, throat and breast) increases the more you drink on a regular basis
- If you wish to cut down the amount you drink, a good way to help achieve this is to have several drink-free days a week
