Lidl is selling ride on suitcases for kids – and they are HALF the price of a Trunki

Lidl's suitcases cost £19.99 and kids can get their hands on four different animals

LIDL has gained popularity for its luxury knock-offs and its latest range of ride-on animal suitcases for kids is no exception.

The budget supermarket funky case looks almost identical to an original version from Magmatic, the Bristol-based maker of Trunki.

Lidl's suitcases cost £19.99 and kids can get their hands on four different types of animals - a cow, a leopard, a kola and a monster.

It can be pulled along and ridden by a child of up to 50kg and comes with a three year warranty.

The suitcases, which have a a capacity of 12kg, are already available in stores starting from today.

The price tag means it is half the price of of a classic model from Trunki which is selling for £39.99.

But if you're looking for a discount version for your kid it might be worth checking out Lidl's offering.

And it is not the first time a company has taken inspiration from Trunki.

While Magmatic was the first to sell the children's ride-on cases decorated to look like animals or insects, Lidl's new range is clearly also inspired by PMS International's Kiddee Case - itself a copycat of Trunki.

We couldn't find the latest retail price for Kiddee cases as they appear out of stock on both eBay and Amazon.

The makers of Kiddee and Trunki cases have been in a long-running tussle over registered design rights.

In March this year, the Supreme Court dismissed an appeal by the maker of Trunki throwing out its claims that rival Kiddee had copied its design.

Dragon Den's reject and founder of Magmatic Rob Law led a #ProtectYourDesign campaign on Twitter to promote intellectual property protection for British designers.

Rob, who was awarded an MBE in 2011 for services to business, has sold more than two million Trunki's in 97 countries.

An estimated 20 per cent of Britain’s three to six-year-olds now own a Trunki.
