We reveal the cheapest (and most expensive) bottle of supermarket prosecco

Lidl fizz costs almost £2 less per glass than the most expensive bubbly from M&S

FIZZ Fridays would taste a whole lot sweeter if you knew that you were getting the most bubbly for your buck.

But many shoppers might not realise that they could be paying almost £2 more per glass due to the wide varieity of supermarket prices.

Splashing out on a Magnum bottle of fizz doesn't always mean that you're getting the most value for your money

Discount website Vouchercloud analysed the UK’s top supermarkets to find out how you can really get the most prosecco for your money.

They looked at bottles of all sizes, from 750ml through to 3litres, and worked out how much a glass of each fizz costs.

Of course,  the data doesn’t take into account the quality of the alcohol so of course that may be reflected in the price.

Unsuprisingly, bargain supermarket Lidl came out on top, with one glass of its Allini Prosecco Frizzante Treviso DOC1 (750ml) costing just 88p per glass.

While, Marks and Spencer topped the table with the most expensive bubbly per glass at £2.67.

The prosecco from Lidl cost £5.25 per bottle, compared with the most expensive bottle which comes from M&S.

If you find yourself sipping on Sainsbury’s Bartenura Prosecco, you may be surprised to find that it’s the second most expensive glass of prosecco, tied in second place with bubbly from Waitrose and M&S.

At £15 a bottle, each glass costs £2.50 and is the same price as prosecco from top brands such as Marks & Spencer’s Conte Priuli ORO and Waitrose’s Follador Superiore DOCG Torri di Credazz.

A bottle of bubbly from Aldi came in as the second best value prosecco for your money, with a glass of the booze costing 97p a glass.

That’s almost 10p more expensive than the cheapest Lidl prosecco.

The research shows that you don’t always have to break the bank to get the best taste.

It took into consideration current offers at supermarkets, which are always changing.

ASDA is currently offering its award winning extra dry prosecco at £6 a bottle - so only £1 a glass.

All of the supermarkets apart from Waitrose and M&S offer a glass of prosecco costing under £1.50, with Sainsbury’s boasting the most choice in this price bracket.

A spokesperson for Sainsbury’s said: “We’re focused on providing customers with the best possible choice, quality and value, and our popular range of Proseccos are no exception.”

When it comes to bubbly, booze lovers should know that size doesn’t always mean better value and boozers shouldn’t always turn to the 1.5 litre magnum to get the most out of a bottle.

Aldi’s Belletti Prosecco DOC Magnum is £1.08 per glass, making it at the higher end of the cheapest fizz chart.

Those who are really looking to impress with a Jéroboam of bubbles - that’s 3 litres of booze and equal to FOUR bottles of wine - might want to stick to the fizz from Aldi to get more bang for your buck.

Vouchercloud compared 68 bottles of prosecco from LIDL, Aldi, Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, ASDA, Tesco, Iceland, Co-op, Waitrose and M&S.

A spokesperson for Waitrose said: “All our wines are high quality and genuine good value - we have a wide and award-winning range with regular promotions, to suit all budgets and occasions.”

The Sun reached out to Tesco, Aldi, Morrisons and M&S but they didn’t offer a comment before this article was published.
