But when you add this up and see how much it will cost you over the entire contract you see how much they are really charging you.

The cheapest way to get a new iPhone?

IT'S unlikely that you'll be able to afford the hefty price tag and buy the handset upfront but if you can, it usually works out the cheapest way.

If you can then it's well worth looking at SIM-only deals as they generally offer a cheaper alternative to getting a contract with a network.

You'll usually get locked in for a set number of months, although some offer rolling contracts.

One of the best around at the moment is from , which gives you 12GB of data per month, unlimited minuites and texts on a 12 month contract for £14 per month.

For example, a network offering you a £45 a month contract over 24 months with an upfront cost of £99 and that adds up to a total cost of £1,179.

Once you minus the cost of the handset (£1,179 - £599) you will see that you’re really paying £24.16 a month for your contract.

Do this for each contract that you’re considering to see how much you’ll pay each month to see if it’s a good deal or not.

You can compare prices using MusicMagpie.com or SellYourMobile.com.

The sites are free to use but they have premium options which give users access to exclusive cashback rates and faster payments.

Quidco and Topcashback are being tight-lipped about what deals they'll have but when the iPhone 7 launched it was possible to get over £100.
