Argos is starting to ditch its catalogue in stores as more shoppers head online

The retail giant is testing out removing the iconic catalogue from a small number of stores

THE days of children circling what they want in the Argos catalogue at Christmas might be over.

Two stores in Inverness has removed the hefty tome from their stores as part of an experiment, according to the .

It means that customers are no longer able to take the catalogue home and flick through it at their own leisure.

These days most Argos stores are fitted with tablet computers which customers use to place orders.

It usually publishes a catalogue twice a year - one in January and another in July - for customers to pick up from stores and take home.

Argos blamed the move on the growing number of shoppers choosing to buy online.

It comes just a few days after the final edition of the Yellow Pages was announced after a 51-year run.

The first edition of the household staple was published in Brighton in 1966.

In June, The Sun Online revealed what it's really like to work at the retail giant, after a former employee lifted the lid.

A spokeswoman from Argos told the BBC: "As increasing numbers of customers choose to shop with us online, for a limited period we are testing demand for the take-home catalogues in a small number of stores.

"Catalogues continue to be available in the vast majority of our stores for customers who want them."
