Shoppers mock Tesco and Morrisons for selling mince pies in September…but one supermarket sells them all year round

Some shoppers are loving that Christmas treats have hit the shelves of their local supermarket, while others have accused shops of "ruining Christmas"

SHOPPERS have started teasing Tesco and Morrisons for selling mince pies in September - but it looks like one supermarket sells the festive treat all year round.

Despite December 25 being more than 15 weeks away, many shops have already started stocking Christmas goods.

But some shoppers think that it’s too early for mince pies to be on the shelves, with one calling it “ridiculous”.

The famous Christmas treat, which is made of shortcrust or puff pastry and filled with a mixture of dried fruits and spices, has been spotted in Tesco and Morrisons stores.

One unhappy shopper tweeted: “Congratulations @Tesco for ruining this year’s Christmas!!! September 4th and you are FORCING this us on already with mince pies etc!!!”

But some have been praising the retailers for stocking their favourite Christmas treat.

Earlier this week, one Twitter user said: “Best day ever Tesco has got their mince pies out on sale.”

Another said: “Mince pies in @Morrisons hell to the year”.

But some eagle-eyed shoppers pointed out that Asda sells mince pies all year round.

Some reported seeing mince pies on the shelves in February this year.

While some could be mistaken in thinking that they were leftover Christmas stock from last year, shoppers also tweeted their delight in April, May and August.

An Asda spokesperson said: "Mince pies are firm favourites with our customers, which is why we have them available in our stores all year round and not just for Christmas."

A Morrisons spokesperson said: "Our bakeries don't sell mince pies all year round but we do start selling them a few months before Christmas because our customers tell us they really enjoy them."

A Tesco spokesperson said: “We know some of our customers like to buy products associated with Christmas a little earlier in the year, so we’re stocking a limited range in some of our stores.”

Retailers are often mocked for starting Christmas earlier than ever each year.

Last month, shoppers were left scratching their heads after budget high street chain the Card Factory filled its shelves with Christmas cards - despite it being August.

While Selfridges launched its Christmas store on August 1 - a move branded “ridiculous” by some shoppers.
