SANTA'S LITTLE HELPER

How Toys R Us’ payment scheme helps you spread out the cost of buying Christmas presents

With 16 weeks left until Christmas it's possible to pay for your presents in instalments

CHRISTMAS is an expensive time of year but there's one way to make it a little bit easier on your wallet.

Toys R Us has a payment scheme that lets you spread out the cost of presents over a maximum of 12 weeks.

It's ideal for people who can't afford to pay for everything in one go.

It might seem too early to think about Christmas, as the children go back to school this week and we've not even had Halloween yet BUT the big day is just 16 weeks away.

You pick what you want to buy and pay a 20 per cent deposit to reserve the item, then decide whether to pay it off over four, eight or 12 weeks.

You'll need to pay a £5 fee but there is no interest added to your balance.

Once you've paid it off you can collect your items and then get them wrapped and under the tree.

If you can't make the repayments or change your mind then you can get your money back minus a £10 cancellation fee.

You'll need to check that your local store takes part in the scheme, as some don't. For more information see the .

Also, it's worth checking the price of the item at rival retailers before you sign up.

It might be cheaper to buy it from elsewhere and save up the cash rather than use the Toys R Us scheme.

It's also not the only shop to offer the scheme, supermarkets including Tesco, Asda and Morrisons have their own versions.

You usually put aside a small amount of cash throughout the year and then the retailer tops it up with a bonus.

These schemes are good because you can save cash over the whole year but you are limited to shopping in that supermarket when it comes to cashing in your money.
