The Rake pub at London Bridge charges £13.40 for a pint of Cloudwater Double IPA beer — leaving drinkers in disbelief

The pub blames the distributor saying they pay more than £130 for a 20-litre keg for the 8.2 per cent beer

A PUB is selling pints at a staggering £13.40.

The Rake charges that for its 8.2 per cent strength Cloudwater North West Double IPA beer.

It has left drinkers spluttering in disbelief. Some Twitter users called it “ridiculously marked up” and “hideously expensive”.

One, Kat Sewell, added: “That may be the most expensive I’ve seen it.”

Yet the ale sells out rapidly. When The Sun tried to buy one at the London Bridge pub yesterday, a barman said: “You are too late. It went in no time.”

Utobeer, the firm that runs The Rake, blamed Manchester brewer Cloudwater’s distributors. Utobeer said it had to pay more than £130 for a 20-litre keg. It added: “Cloudwater won’t deliver directly unless we order a pallet.

“We’re not making vast profit, but an 8.2 per cent beer’s never going to be cheap. We’re looking into other delivery options to try and minimise the cost.”

Distributor Euroboozer last night denied cashing in. It said: “We’ve taken a 25-30 per cent hit on our usual margin.

But good beer costs good money. If you can, drink it and enjoy.”
