Along with greetings cards for all members of the family, customers can already snap up Christmas gift bags and money wallets covered in pictures of Santa and decorated trees.

But not everyone is impressed. Gran-of-two Veronica Robins, from Woking in Surrey, said: “I couldn’t believe my eyes when I walked into Card Factory.

“It’s August yet they’ve already got all their Christmas cards out on the shelves.

“I’ve not even had my summer holiday yet and my grandchildren aren’t even back at school. It’s utter madness.”

Other shoppers have taken to Twitter to share their confusion and bafflement.

Emma Craig tweeted: “Seriously?! Card Factory are selling Christmas cards already! It's August, guys!”

Meg Winstanley added: “Are my eyes dreaming or have I really just seen Christmas cards up in Card Factory?”

One mum even raged: “Really, Card Factory has got Christmas card and bags out already - please let the kids go back to school first and let us have summer.”

Roberta Greenwood, store manager of the Broadmarsh Shopping Centre branch in Nottingham, insists that people have already begun buying her Christmas cards - despite December 25 being more than three months away.

She said: “People like to shop early. Some people live abroad and take them back because they can’t get them there and we get a few regulars every year from places like Spain.

“If you have got a big family you can spread the cost out because it can be expensive.”
