Luvabella lifelike toy doll is tipped to be Christmas 2017’s must-have present – but some parents think it looks like Chucky

The doll, which has a recommend retail price of £99.99, is tipped to be a sell out this Christmas

AN ARTIFICIAL intelligence doll has been tipped to be this Christmas' must-have toy - but it won't hit the shops until October.

And some parents think that the Luvabella doll has a spooky resemblance to Chucky, the horror film character.

The children's doll, which has a recommended retail price of £99.99, responds to affection, falls asleep, giggles and talks.

It is manufactured by Spin Master - the company behind last year's Christmas sell-out, Hatchimals - and also already featured in Argos' top top prediction list for 2017.

There are fears that it could end up selling out quickly when it hits the shelves in October.

Last year, Hatchimals proved so popular that some shoppers paid four times the price on eBay to secure one for their child.

But, as some parents have pointed out, the doll has a slightly creepy side.

Hidden sensors learn how a child plays with it and responds to common actions. It learns to talk, cover its eyes and plays peek-a-boo.

Parents have called it "creepy" and likened it to Chucky, the scary doll made famous in the horror film series.

One user on You Tube said: "That thing you call a baby is pretty amazing but creepy at the same time".

Another said on Facebook: "Creepiest doll I've ever seen. Not having one in this house".

While another said: "More importantly: will this doll have an 'off' switch? If it reacts to loud noise and cries etc."

The Luvabella will be available in most retailers, including Argos and ToysRUs. Smyths is offering a pre-order service at £99.99 per doll.

The doll is set to hit the shops from October 1 in the UK, Spin Masters confirmed.
