Aldi brings back huge 16oz rump steak for less than £5 – but you’ll need to be quick

ALDI is bringing back what it claims is “the biggest steak available on the market” - and at a bargain price.

The budget supermarket’s “Big Daddy” extra thick 16oz/454g British rump steak costs just £4.99.

Aldi claims the steak is 100g bigger and 42 per cent cheaper than its Tesco equivalent.

This means the offer is now even better value than when the budget retailer first launched the offer in June for Father’s Day, when its product was just 39 per cent cheaper compared its closest rival.

Sainsbury's Rump Steak is slightly cheaper at £4.50 but it's also much smaller weighting just 225g.

The new steaks will be available across Aldi stores from Thursday 24th August just in time for the Bank Holiday- but customers will have to be quick as the retailer only has a limited supply available.

According to Aldi, the rump steak has the same benefits of a fillet steak, but with more flavour. It is best thick-cut and cooked over a very high heat, with a generous resting time up to 10 minutes.

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi UK, said: “After the sell-out success of the Aldi’s ‘Big Daddy’ steak at Father’s Day, we just had to bring it back, and the August Bank Holiday seemed like the perfect opportunity for this.

He added that the premium British rump steak is an example of Aldi’s commitment to offering quality, locally-sourced products at low prices and allowing customers to make substantial savings on “luxury products” without compromise.

SUPER SAVINGS Aldi’s bargain buys – from the award-winning £10 gin to the £3.99 knock-off Jo Malone candles

The launch comes as German budget stores Aldi and Lidl are continuing to gain ground on the UK’s big four supermarkets, luring in thousands of cash-strapped shoppers looking for bargains.

Both retailers have become known for their copycat versions of products from popular brands  at a fraction of the price.

Last, Aldi brought back its hugely popular candles, which the budget store claims smell exactly like posh ones from Jo Malone but at a 90 per cent discount.

Earlier this year, it sparked a sandwich price war by launching a new range of takeaway products that it claimed tasted the same as the equivalent from posh rival M&S, but for half the price.

And last year the supermarket sold the world’s most expensive steak – prime cuts of Wagyu beef from New Zealand – for just £7.29.
