Celebrity chef Rick Stein came under fire this week for charging 35p for ketchup at Fish & Chips in Padstow, Cornwall.
Here GRAEME CULLIFORD reveals other places that charge for something saucy on the side.
McDonald's
EACH franchise sets its own prices, so costs vary. In one London branch ketchup was free but other sauces cost 20p.
In Leeds two outlets charged 25p for special sauces (ketchup and BBQ sauce were free).

KFC
KETCHUP is generally handed out free at branches of KFC.
We found that some of the outlets we visited across the country were charging up to 25p for special dips, such as hot sauce, sweet chilli and garlic mayonnaise.

Domino's
THIS pizza chain lets franchises set their own charging policies but most seem to charge 49p for dips, such as tangy salsa and honey and mustard.
This was the case at the stores we visited in Newcastle, Derby, Leeds and London.

THE Italian/American restaurant chain is loved by pizza and burger fans.
But knowing you will have to fork out £1.45 for some garlic and herb sauce may leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.
