Aldi launches new range of Featherweight wines that have HALF the amount of calories than usual – but there’s a catch
If you thought it was too good to be true? It probably is... the new Aldi wines have a lower alcohol percentage, as well as fewer calories
BUDGET supermarket Aldi has launched a new range of wines that have half the amount of calories of a normal bottle.
But, there's a catch...as the wine also has a lower alcohol percentage too.
Aldi's Featherweight collection comes in red, white and rose and cost £2.99 per bottle.
The range include a sauvignon blanc, pinot grigot, merlot and white zinfandel.
Each bottle has an alcohol percentage of 5.5 per cent, making it less than half as strong as typical wines (11.6 per cent).
Of course, it makes sense that lower alcohol wines are better for your health and waistline.
For example, a 125ml glass of Aldi's new pinot grigio has just 55 calories, while a standard glass has double at 104.
Its white zinfandel has 57 calories in a 125ml glass compared with a standard zinfandel which has 113.
While the sauvignon blanc has 55 calories while the merlot has 59.
Only the Merlot is available nationwide, while the others are only available at certain regional locations.

The Sauvignon Blanc and White Zinfandel are only available in Swindon, Bathgate, Chelmsford, Neston, and Goldthorpe; while the Pinot Grigio can only be bought in Atherstone, Bolton, Darlington and Cardiff.
Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi UK, said: "We have seen over the last year a real appetite from wine drinkers in the UK for lower calorie and ABV wines to moderate their alcohol intake.
"We ensure we're offering our customers the products they want and so have introduced our Featherweight wines as a lighter choice for our shoppers.
"These bottles have been carefully selected by our experts."
GRAPE IDEA! Why you should always order the CHEAPEST bottle off the wine list in restaurants
The budget supermarket has more than 700 stores around the UK and it plans to open a further 60 this year.
It has won lots of awards for its range of alcohol, including a bottle of rose that costs £5.99.
And a £10 bottle of red wine that beat others more than double its price to win a top taste award.
