Savvy shopper bagged £60 worth of shopping for just £2.55 using yellow sticker discounts

A BARGAIN hunter has revealed how she’s got £60 worth of food for just £2.55 just by using yellow sticker discounts.

Lisa Parry from Cardiff proudly tweeted the video of her £2.55 Asda shop to MoneySavingExpert.com founder Martin Lewis.

Lisa Parry worker out that her shopping was worth about £60 of food, without the price cuts

Lisa Parry told MSE that she started to shop on the reduced aisle about four years ago and the move totally changed her life financially

Products in her basket were all priced from 20p down to 2 pence and included scones, baguettes, beef burgers, sausages, salads and stir fries.

She worked out that her shopping was worth about £60 of food, without the price cuts.

The 43-year old told that she started to shop on the reduced aisle about four years ago and the move drastically changed her life financially.

“I save so much money. I am saving money each month whereas before I did this I wasn’t saving money and was struggling to make ends meet. I used to spend about £40 per week on shopping and now it’s a few pounds,” she said.

There are three reasons food is reduced in the supermarket: it has a short date, it is superficially damaged or it is no longer being sold.

Jordon Cox, MoneySavingExpert.com’s Coupon Kid told the Sun Online: “Yellow sticker bargains in the reduced aisle can hold some hidden treasures – depending on what time of the day you visit.

“Generally, around an hour before closing is when you’ll find the biggest discounts in the major supermarkets. If you pounce at the right time and pick up some food, most items can be frozen to make several meals over the week.”

The reduced items often mean you are saving up to 75 per cent off the retail price, and if you have a big freezer then its the perfect way to stock up on the best brands for less

This is probably why Ms Parry is far from the only one hunting for cut-price foods.

Nicola King today also tweeted about how she got £75 worth of food – including pizza, ready-to-eat currys and chicken – at Marks and Spencer for only £16.

Savvy shopper Tom Church previously told the Sun Online about how he spent a year living off yellow stickers and saved over £3,000.

Supermarkets tend to slap a yellow sticker on foods in mid-morning and in the evening.

But Tesco and Co-op start their 25 per cent reductions as early as 8am, whereas Sainsbury’s and Asda start around midday.

The big 75 per cent off discounts start at 7pm in Morrisons and Co-op and as late as 9pm in Asda.
