Be card sharp
WHILE our Sun Savers rewards club is one of the UK’s most generous, many other firms offer bonuses for your custom too.
And a report out today from reveals people typically belong to five loyalty schemes each, collectively earning a whopping £5.7billion in rewards each year.
Nine in ten of us save up points or cash via programmes such as the Tesco Clubcard, Morrisons’ Match And More, Nectar and the Boots Advantage Card — with 41 per cent banking rewards for Christmas.
Consumers typically earn £112 each year in loyalty points but a savvy four per cent earn more than £500.
Adam Bullock, UK Director of , said: “Reward programmes are now huge in the UK. It is always worth looking for ways to make your money work harder.”
Here are some ways to make the cards pay big.
- Ensure you are signed up to all of the loyalty schemes and programmes you will find useful. Even if you don’t shop with a retailer every week, it’s worth joining for when you do.
- Consider loyalty schemes for very small purchases such as coffee — it all adds up.
- Make sure you register for each scheme’s marketing emails as most retailers email members with extra deals and discounts. Set up a separate email address just for this so you’re not bombarded.
- Layer up your loyalty by also using a loyalty credit card when shopping.
- Big retailers have double or triple points events a couple of times a year. Delay making big purchases until you can boost the value of your points.
- Bank up your points for special occasions. You’ll be amazed how much you’ve made.
- Consider what you need your points for. Is it money off everyday shopping or do you want to convert rewards into travel vouchers or cash off flights? Then decide where to shop according to what you get.
- Tailor your rewards. Lots of firms offer personalised rewards where you can choose what you get, so work out what you need for free and ask for it.
