A plain Double Cheeseburger without bacon is available on the "King Saver" budget menu for just £1.49 - but you might think that sacrificing your bacon is not worth the money saving.

Fortunately,  MoneySavingExpert has uncovered a burger hack - tested on ten occasions in London and Manchester.

By using the fast food chain’s slogan "Have it your way", you can pimp your burgers with additional beef patties at 90p each as well as cheese or bacon both for 50p, according to MSE.

This means that if you order a Double Cheeseburger off  the King Saver menu and ask the server to add bacon, you’ll have one for only £1.99 - saving £2.40 in the process.

The King Saver menu also allows you to order regular fries and a refillable small drink , bringing the total for your self-made meal to £3.97.

This is still £2.42 less than a Bacon Double Cheeseburger meal, which costs £6.39, according to MSE.

POSH NOSH M&;S has launched a new lunchtime meal deal – and it’s a game-changer

Since the money saving website reported the trick, Burger King launched that includes a Bacon Double Cheeseburger and fries for £1.99.

But the offer is not available at all the outlets and customers will need to get print the voucher or download the app to get it.

In July this year, Burger King came under fire after a customer in Switzerland was  was served a burger with what looked like “filthy cords, hair, and dirty cardboard” baked into the bun.

At the time a spokesperson for the company said: “Burger King commits to high standards of food safety. We have asked our suppliers to carry out an investigation.”

One of the company's adverts in the US was also blocked after it was hijacked by trolls .
