MOST READ IN MONEY
‘We had day out after bonus win’
ROMANTIC Colin Page, 53, from Edinburgh, treated girlfriend Joanna Dunaj, 40, a site administrator, to a day out in Newcastle thanks to Sun Savers.
The construction site manager won a £50 bonus, simply for entering the daily code on the app. He says: “I signed up to Sun Savers as soon as I read about it in the paper. I had no problems and it’s really easy to use. I’m planning to save up the cash for a few more treats, like our trip to Newcastle.”
‘App couldn’t be simpler to use’
RETIRED engineering manager Albert Bowyer, 72, from Peterborough, says using the Sun Savers app is a no-brainer.
He has The Sun delivered to his home every day, and scans in the code after reading the news. He says: “The app couldn’t be simpler, and I like that about it. I haven’t cashed out any of my fivers yet. I’m saving it up until I’ve got a nice chunk of money to treat myself to a meal out and a couple of pints.”
‘Nice for loyalty to be rewarded’
READER Peter Scanlan, 66, from East Kilbride, South Lanarks, likes how quickly the Sun Savers codes mount up. He says: “I found the app really easy to use right from day one.
“If you buy The Sun every day like I do, it’s not difficult to quickly collect enough codes to get the cashback. I don’t use the money for anything special.
“However, it is nice to have a little bit back for being loyal to the paper.”
We bust the myths about Sun Savers

Let go go gadget... for National Unplugging Day
TOMORROW is National Unplugging Day, when families are asked to go gadget-free and ditch technology for 24 hours.
Of course you’ll have to scan your Sun Savers code first, but by switching off home tech and taking a break from chores for just one day a week, experts estimate families can save an average of £90.72 over a year.
Sarah Scrivener, Smart Energy Expert at British Gas, explains: “In today’s switched-on society, families are spending more time connecting with tech than each other.
“While the physical and emotional benefits of ‘disconnecting’ have been widely reported, unplugging for just one day each week can also help families be smarter with their energy.
“By installing smart meters, families will be able to see exactly how much their household spends a day on energy.”
Here are our top energy tips to cut the cost of your electricity bill.
❶ Ditch the tumble dryer. Drying your clothes on the line can save up to £56 per year.
❷ Microwaves tend to use less energy than a conventional oven, so use yours when you get the chance
❸ When gadgets and appliances aren’t on but are plugged in they still use a small amount of energy, which can add up.
Be sure to unplug your TV, kettle and toaster when not in use and save up to £80 a year.
❹ Almost 90 per cent of a washing machine’s energy expenditure is spent on heating the water, and washing at 30C rather than 40C can save you a third of the cost to run the cycle.
❺ If you’re cooking pasta or rice, or boiling veggies, use the kettle to boil water for cooking, instead of heating a pan on the stove. It’s quicker and uses less energy.
❻ Invest in energy-saving light bulbs and always turn off the lights when you leave a room. You could save up to £100 a year.
