THE number of Brits doing all their grocery shopping online has doubled since 2014.
According to analysts Mintel, 14 per cent now use the web, up from seven per cent — and a third of us have bought more food online in the last 12 months than ever before.
But while online shopping can make things simple, how do you know you’re getting the best deal?
Aisling Lawless, from grocery comparison site said: “With inflation rising, we all want to try and save money on our weekly shop.
"Many supermarkets are in close proximity to each other so don’t be afraid to split your shop across two supermarkets to save.”
Here are more tips for slicing your online basket bills.
- Meal plan. Knowing what you are going to eat for the week will cut down on impulse purchases.
- Stick to the list. Write down everything you need as it will cut out any extra trips to the shop during the week and additional spend.
- Sign up for loyalty schemes in every shop you use. Search for offers and discount vouchers.
- Do research. will compare your shop across multiple supermarkets. There are often big differences on the same item.
- Split the shop. It might seem like a hassle, but dividing what you buy across two supermarkets can save up to 30 per cent.
- Consider the discounters. Aldi, Lidl and Iceland are great places to stock up on fruit, vegetables and frozen items for less.
- Look out for flash sales. Most online supermarkets offer big discounts on selected items lasting anything from a few hours to a week.
- Track your offers. All products that are on offer in a store or online will have an end date. Keeping track of when the offer ends means you can stock up before the promo finishes.
