Aldi launches copycat Yankee Candles at £1.99 each – but you’ll need to be quick if you want one

The copycat candles hit the shelves on Thursday - but stock is expected to sell out fast so you'll need to head to your local store early

ALDI has launched a new range of scented candles - and they look exactly like Yankee candles, but cheaper.

The Yankee dupes cost just £1.99 each, which is £7 cheaper than the official ones, and they are expected to sell out fast once they hit the shelves.

The candles, which have been released as part of Aldi's "Specialbuys" range, come in three scents: "Along The Coast", "Ocean Driftwood" and "Seaside Garden", and they weigh 130g, which is slightly heavier than the small Yankee candles.

They have around 28 hours of burn time, compared to Yankee's 25-40 hours.

The three candles are already sold out online, but bargain hunters will be pleased to know that the candles will be in stores from Thursday, so if you're quick you might be able to get your hands on one of the jars.

That said, Aldi has in the past only stocked a limited number of its Specialbuys in store, such as its popular £299 Jacuzzi, so if you're desperate to get a copycat Yankee candle you'll need to head to stores early to beat the queues.

It’s not the first time that Aldi has sold copycat versions of luxury products.

In March, the bargain supermarket launched a range of scented candles that it claimed smelt exactly like Jo Malone ones but at a 90 per cent discount.

The candles were so popular that they sold out within hours, leading to many opportunistic buyers flogging their candles on eBay for more than seven times the price to try and make a quick buck.

In February, The Sun Online reported on a new Aldi floor lamp which looks almost identical to one sold by John Lewis.

It followed the success of the Aldi’s marble and copper-effect vintage floor lamp last year, which was praised by interior styling experts for their luxury appearance and low price tag.

And just before Christmas Aldi launched a range of hampers which looked very similar to luxury retailer Fortnum & Mason – but with a price tag that was £126 cheaper.

While Aldi’s LED Christmas advent calendar cost just £8.99 and it looked very similar to a version from Harrods that cost £65.
