Microsoft wants you to use Bing so much it now basically pays you to search it

Microsoft's new reward scheme pays computer users for searching on Bing and shopping through the Microsoft and Windows store

MICROSOFT has launched a new loyalty scheme that rewards people for searching the web through Bing and shopping on the Microsoft and Windows store.

Users can also earn extra points by taking daily quizzes, entering competitions, completing challenges and taking virtual tours.

For searching the web through a Microsoft Edge browser using Bing as the search engine you can earn a maximum of 60 points per day.

While shoppers earn at least 1 point per £1 spent at the Microsoft and Windows stores.

For every 5,000 points users get £5 to spend on the Microsoft Rewards page.

Once users have earned enough points, they can swap them for prizes, for example an XBox Live Gold Membership for 6,000, usually worth £9.99 or £5 windows store gift card.

Bing is used "millions of times a day" by internet users around the world, according to Microsoft, but it has failed to challenge Google as the kind of searching the web.

To collect points you have to link your Outlook, Hotmail Live, Skype or XBox Live account through the Rewards.Microsoft.com website.

Once you've set it up points are automatically added to your account once you've activated your account.

Kevin Stagg from Microsoft said: “There will be loads of great offers and experiences available through Microsoft Rewards so we urge everyone to sign up and get involved."

The loyalty scheme is also set to launch in France, Germany and Canada over the next few weeks.

It's not the first time Microsoft has tried to incentivise using Bing. Last year, it announced that Bing Rewards - a similar reward scheme  - would be enveloped into the Microsoft Reward structure.
