Aldi takes on John Lewis and The White Company with its cut-price range of home furnishings

ALDI is taking on pricier high-street rivals with its new nautical homeware collection that offers bargain-price cushions, bedding, storage and decorations.

The new interior pieces have been designed with the seaside in mind, and most of the items cost less than £20 - giving homeowners affordable options for kitting out a home.

Some of the pieces include a £5.99 nautical cushions, a £6.99 rope wall clock, £3.99 coastal candles, a £9.99 climate control duvet, £24.99 bedding, a bathroom cupboard costing £29.99 and a bathroom storage unit costing £49.99.

While John Lewis and The White Company offer similar coastal collections, their items carry bigger price tags.

For example, Aldi's coastal white bathroom tallboy costs £49.99, while John Lewis's similar storage unit costs more than double, at £120.

And a John Lewis blue anchor knitted nautical cushion also costs double the price of Aldi's one, which is just under £6.

Interior designer Jo Atkinson said that with the nautical style taking over the catwalks, "it looks set to be a hotter trend than ever before across both clothing and interiors."

Tony Baines, managing director for corporate buying at Aldi said: “We know that home refreshes can be expensive, so with the coastal trend set to rise in popularity this summer, we’ve launched our coastal interiors ranges to help people revamp their homes at a fraction of the price.

"Whether they live by the sea or in the city, we have got everything including furniture, accessories and furnishings so shoppers can give a nod to nautical or really push the boat out, without compromising on quality or style.”

Aldi's coastal collection will be available to buy in stores nationwide and online from tomorrow, but some products won't launch until June 15th.

As with many of Aldi's products, they're only available while stocks last - so if you're in the market for some sea-side decorations, you better head over there quick.

This isn't the first time Aldi has taken on bigger retailers, as the supermarket often launches copycat items at low prices.

In February, Aldi launched a floor lamp which was almost identical to a John Lewis version, but cost less than half the price.

And just before Christmas Aldi launched a range of hampers which looked very similar to luxury retailer Fortnum & Mason – but with a price tag that was £126 cheaper.

The supermarket has also sold a range of scented candles, costing just £3.99 each, that it claimed looked and smelled exactly like Jo Malone ones – which usually cost £44 each.
