Scorching Bank Holiday forecast sees sales of Lidl’s £6.99 own-brand alternative to Pimms spike by 160%
SCORCHING weather this May has resulted in a huge spike in demand for Lidl's new, own-brand alternative to Pimm's, with sales soaring 160 per cent over the past week.
Lidl's Peyton's, which first launched early May, costs just £6.99 - half the cost of the original tipple which retails for between £13-15 in most stores.
And with the UK set to bask in up to 30°C degree temperatures this Bank Holiday weekend, sales of the purse-friendly tipple are expected to rise further.
The summertime favourite is commonly served with lemonade and various chopped fruits and herbs, such as oranges, strawberries, mint and cucumber.
Lidl spirits expert Tristan Stephenson describes the beverage as "featuring classic fruity flavours and notes of summery spice", which is perfect for balmy BBQs and dining alfresco.
"[The drink] is best enjoyed in the traditional way – poured into a jug with ice cubes and topped up with lemonade, a handful of strawberries and a sprig of mint," he said.

Peyton’s is available to buy at Lidl stores across the UK this Bank Holiday weekend.
The German-owned budget chain was recently named the second-best supermarket in the UK for "own-brand" food, with Aldi pipping it to the post.
A panel at an industry awards blind-tasted all products in the contest, rating for taste, texture, price and innovation.
Lidl came second, winning 16 categories out of 68, while Aldi won 24.
