LOYALTY GLITCH

Check your Nectar account NOW as some Sainsbury’s shoppers are missing hundreds of points

Nectar has reassured customers that it will fix the glitch and update customers' accounts as soon possible

NECTAR card owners are being urged to check their accounts after some users have reported missing points after shopping at Sainsbury's.

The Nectar scheme allows shoppers to collect points at over 500 brands, including Sainsbury’s, BP petrol stations and Argos.

But a “technical glitch” has left some Sainsbury's customers with negative balances, while others haven't had points added to their account.

A number of customers have also noticed that their balances have decreased, despite not cashing in any points.

A spokesperson for Nectar confirmed that it is just Sainsbury's shoppers that could be affected by the glitch.

Customers have been complaining to Nectar on Twitter about the error.

Charlotte Burns from personal finance blog said: "Nectar card users who notice that they are missing points from their account, should get in contact with Nectar's customer services as soon as possible.

"It is also worth contacting Nectar via its live chat to begin the process of getting your lost points back.

"You cannot rely on Nectar to automatically fix the situation, you need to alert them to your missing points."

Nectar is one of the UK’s most popular loyalty schemes, along with Tesco’s Clubcard and the Boots Advantage card.

When redeemed in store at Sainsbury’s, each Nectar point is worth 0.5p – so 1,000 points equates to £5.

You can collect points on fuel spends but not on stamps, car park tickets, cash back, gift vouchers, lottery tickets, scratch cards, medicines or baby milk.

But there are also hundreds of retailers where users can collect points.

Shoppers can swap their points for double the value and sometimes triple the value through the Nectar website.

In 2015, Sainsbury’s upset shoppers when it slashed the amount of Nectar points shoppers could earn per £1 spend from 2 points to 1.

A spokesperson from Nectar said: “Nectar and Sainsbury’s recently became aware of a technical glitch which means that some point balances people are seeing on their Sainsbury’s till receipts have not yet been processed through the system, and do not align with their point balance.

“We’re working with Nectar to fix the glitch and update customers’ accounts as soon as possible.”
