How to cut your laundry bill in HALF and get rid of stains with just one switch

Own-brand washing pods are cheaper and better at removing everyday stains, according to Which?

SWITCHING to an own-brand supermarket laundry detergent could cut your washing bill in half, according to new research.

And own-brand washing pods are actually BETTER at removing everyday stains, such as curry, baby food and chocolate ice cream.

tested 11 laundry capsules, including those made by big brands such as Ariel, Fairy, Persil and Surf, as well as non-branded supermarket alternatives.

Making the switch to a cheap washing liquid could also save more than £22 a year - cutting the cost of buying laundry detergent in half.

It also found that capsule detergents are particularly good at keeping colours fresh because, unlike powders, they clean without using bleaches.

But when it comes to whites, you’re much better off using a powder if you want your sheets and shirts to stay really bright, its report said.

Which? added: “The best capsules, liquids and gels will keep them looking fresh, but they can’t quite match the whitening power of a powder detergent.”

To find the cheapest laundry liquid shoppers need to compare prices using online grocery search engine MySupermarket.com.

There you can check for discounts, deals and the best price before you head to the shop.

You also have to commit to doing more washing, drying and charging of appliances at night when you pay less for energy.
