MORRISONS has kickstarted a fresh supermarket price war by promising to slash over a thousand prices of household essentials on Monday.
The May Day price cut is part of the supermarket’s latest push to win over customers.
It plans to push down the cost of grocery staples, including cereal, bread, tea, as well as summer ingredients such as cucumber, tomatoes and salads.
An iceberg lettuce will fall to 50p, down from 75p - beating its rivals to sell it at the lowest price.
The price of lettuce shot up over the winter - hitting over £1 - due to a vegetable supply shortage.

Morrisons launched an attack on prices in January by cutting the cost of 800 everyday household items.
It was the first of the big supermarkets to slash prices, as they try to compete with the growing popularity of bargain shops Aldi and Lidl.
Asda soon followed in its footsteps by cutting the price of dozens of household favourites to just 50p.
While Tesco cut a number of items but denied it was part of a “mass reduction on prices”.
Andy Atkinson, Morrisons Customer and Marketing Director said: “It may feel chilly and wet this weekend but better weather is coming, so we think it’s the right time to crunch prices that help customers to picnic this summer.”
