To make the Lidl bunch you’ll need four bunches of a dozen large roses (£3.30), oriental lilies (£3.30) and combine with fresh foliage from the garden to create the bargain bunch.

As part of the revamp Lidl has stripped back its packaging to brown paper and plain cellophane, giving its flowers an up-market look.

The flowers available in store will change depending on the season but the new range is set to include oriental lily bunches (£3.30), a dozen large roses (£3.30) and rainbow tulips (£5).

The bargain supermarket claims its blooms last for up to two weeks.

It also claims that budding brides on a tight budget can furnish an entire wedding for less than £150 - an astonishing saving of 90 per cent compared to the £1,500 usually quoted from professional florists.

For just £149 brides-to-be can snap up 100 roses, 80 chrysanthemums and over 160 tulips - enough to make a bridal bouquet, three bridesmaid bouquets, six button holes and eight table displays.

Kat Williams from Rock n Roll Bride said: “We feature hundreds of stunning real life weddings on the blog every year so we can spot a trend when it takes off.

“DIY is definitely here to stay, with the majority of our readers now choosing to do their own flowers – with many of them increasingly turning to supermarket blooms for their big day."

“With wedding costs soaring, flowers are an extravagance with a short lifespan so it’s understandable that brides are turning to budget-friendly alternatives, like Lidl’s beautiful spring range, which they can customise themselves for an extra personal touch.”
