MAP IT OUT: Explore how your area has changed over the past 180 years with Ordnance Survey maps of England and Wales going back to the 1840s.

Work through the years to see how communities have spread over the last couple of centuries at maps.nls.uk.
Across Britain, there are thousands of remains of Iron Age hillforts.
Look up local sites at hillforts.arch.ox.ac.uk and find information on what remains in each area.
EXPLORE VIRTUALLY: English Heritage has worked with Google so you can virtually visit its sites via videos and 360-degree tours at artsandculture. google.com/project/english-heritage.

But there is also loads to explore on its site at britishmuseum.org, including curator tours and an overview of gladiator fighting in Britain.
LISTEN UP: There are a number of fantastic podcasts that let you learn about British history for free.
The National Trust and English Heritage both offer series to help you uncover more of the stories behind their sites.
MAKE HISTORY: Find precious photos, maps and more about your local area contributed by the public at sharing site historypin.org.
