A FAST food giant will bring back a 'holy grail' burger after it was axed five years ago.

KFC is rolling out a new and improved version of its Double Down burger, which was last seen on the menu nearly half a decade ago.

KFC Double Down is making a return to menus

The burger, which features two breaded chicken breasts instead of a sandwich bun was last seen on the menus in 2019.

KFC said it is now bringing the delight back, but with a twist.

The snack will now also feature a hashbrown wedged between the chicken buns along with cheese and KFC Supercharger sauce.

It will be good for lovers of the fried food snack, who have given the burger glowing reviews every time it returns to menus.

One Reddit user had this to say about it: "This is the holy grail of fast food.

"The stoner in me will never forget this marvel of culinary wizardry. The arteries in me probably won’t either.’"

While another fan said: "I need the KFC double down in my life again.";

A third added: "Double down burger at KFC is to die for."

The burger is making a come back on February 10, meaning customers have just one week to wait.

It will cost £7.49 as a single item, or £9.49 if you want to add fries and a drink.

A box meal including the burger, fries, a side drink and two hot wings will cost £11.49.

But if you want to get your hands on the treat you will need to act fast.

It will only be on menus until March 16, giving customers just five weeks to try it out.

You can order it on online via KFC Delivery, Uber Eats or Just Eat.

Or you can visit one of KFC's 800 plus restaurants in the UK.

Phoebe Syms, brand manager at KFC UK said: "The Double Down isn’t just a menu item—it’s a KFC icon with a cult following like no other.

"This is all about giving our fans the ultimate Double Down experience they’ve been craving—but they’ll need to be quick, as it’s only here for a limited time."

WHAT'S NEW IN FAST FOOD?

KFC is not the only fast food restaurant to shake up its menu this month.

As we head into spring, Mc Donald's will add the Philly Cheese Stack, Raspberry and White Chocolate Pie and a Mars McFlurry to the menu.

It's the first time customers will be able to get their hands on the seasonal burger since last September.

It features two beef patties with a cheese sauce, cheese slices, grilled and crispy onions and pickles served in a toasted bun.

The burger will cost £5.29 on its own, or get a medium meal for £6.99.

To celebrate Valentine's Day, Maccies has brought back its Raspberry and White Chocolate pie for £1.99.

The dessert comes with a crispy pink pastry filled with a smooth white chocolate ganache and raspberry compote.

It made its debut for Valentines Day back in February 2024, and it has not featured on the menu since.

Finally, McFlurry fans will have a chance to mix the classic ice-cream with an iconic chocolate bar.

How to eat for cheap

Eating out can burn a hole in your budget, says Sun Savers editor Lana Clements, but there are a few tricks to get a meal for less.

SECRET EATS: Mystery diners can get a free meal in exchange for giving feedback on their experience.

There are a number of firms that recruit people to dine and review.

You need to sign up to one that will give you a location and a brief on what to asses on the visit.

Try Hgem, which works with restaurants including Dishoom, Flat Iron and Brewdog.

Normally, you pay for the food and then get reimbursed for your visit. Apply at mysterydining.net.

Service Scan works with fast food outlets as well as top-end gourmet establishments. See service-scan.com.

LEARNERS: You can get cut-price food by sampling menus from trainee chefs. Catering colleges often have restaurants with delicious meals that are whipped up by students.

They are usually only open in term time and you will have to dig around to find your nearest venue.

For example, The Stables Restaurant is part of Oaklands College in Hertfordshire. Or you could try the Scholars Restaurant at City of Glasgow College.

DO IT FOR THE KIDS: During the holidays, numerous chains run kids-eat-free or cheap offers that cut the cost of going out as a family.

For example previous offers have seen up to two children get a free meal all day at Bills when one adult ordered a main dish. The kids’ menu includes mac and cheese, as well as fish fingers and chips.

At Subway, children got a 4in sub, snack and drink for free when an adult bought a foot-long sub.
