In a message to customers who have Asda Rewards, the supermarket said they will end from tomorrow.

Customers buying Star Products can earn 10% of the price back into their Cashpot.

Any money accumulated in Cashpots can then be converted into vouchers to get money off future Asda shops.

Star Products are available in stores and when shopping online and change on a regular basis.

It's understood the axe has been taken to this part of the loyalty scheme ahead of a major shake up that is expected to see its biggest Rollback price reductions in years.

Asda has also ditched its promise to match prices at rival supermarkets Aldi and Lidl.

A message on the price match page on the Asda website says that "our Aldi Lidl Price Match has now finished".

An Asda spokesperson said that there’s "much more to come, through Asda Rewards and across our stores".

Commenting on the price match ending , , they said the supermarket was focused on "great Asda prices not competitor comparisons".

It's understood the remaining features on the Asda Rewards scheme will stay, including Missions.

Inside new upgraded Asda stores

The removal of the Star Products feature from the app has led to some shoppers threatening to ditch the supermarket.

One commented: "It looks like me shopping somewhere else then."

Another branded the scheme "pointless" after the change.

A third chimed in: "Oh well, back to Tesco then where (we) will get Clubcard points."

But others have welcomed the shake up or aren't too bothered by the change.

One said: "I was quite impressed this week with Rollback."

Meanwhile, a second added: "I shop there anyways so just buy what I buy and scan it.

"If I get (cashback) back in my pot then bonus if not oh well I needed it anyways."

The recent changes from Asda come after the retailer launched a trial of electronic shelf labels at a branch in Manchester.

The supermarket chain also changed its logo in May last year.

How does Asda's Rewards scheme work?

The Asda Rewards scheme can be downloaded on to any iPhone or Android via the Apple App store or Google Play.

It works like most other supermarket loyalty schemes except customers earn "Asda Pounds" instead of points which are added to a "Cashpot".

Any pounds you earn can be turned into vouchers to get money off future purchases.

Until tomorrow, you get cashback when buying Star Products, which change on a regular basis.
