THE UK's top 10 restaurants have been revealed including an old cattle barn and 'soil-centric' farm.

Britain is home to some of the best restaurants in the world, but none of the elite few are in London, according to the independent guide SquareMeal.

Reviewers said chefs and dining staff showed ";grit, graft and determination" to battle through biting inflation - and they have still provided unforgettable dining experiences.

The Midlands stood out amongst the UK's regions, taking three of the top places.

SquareMeal gave Nottingham's Restaurant Sat Bains its prized first place award.

The two Michelin starred eatery was described as being a "unparalleled experience" of seasonal British fine dining.

Less than an hours drive is Grace & Savour.

The idyllic countryside retreat was positioned in the top five and offers an outstanding 15-course tasting menu and is committed to ethical farming.

That's not the only destination that makes use of the diverse countryside with Pine in Northumberland taking the silver.

The one Michelin star restaurant has managed to effortlessly charm its guests with breezy service, according to SquareMeal.

Taking a step back away from the Modern European eateries, the fourth place Ynyshir has found a unique combination.

Sitting in the stunning Snowdonia site, Gareth Ward has brought Japanese influence into his kitchen while focusing on fat and flavour.

The only restaurant in the top ten with three Michelin stars is L'Enclume.

If you manage to book a table, the culinary alchemy does not make a mark on the sustainability.

The changing menu has previously included Scallops dusted in their own dried roe.

Meanwhile, Woven by Adam Smith has claimed its place at number five.

Housed within an eighteenth-century property and 246 acres of beautiful grounds, there's a lot to enjoy beyond what's on the plate.

Opening in Manchester's NOMA district last year, the ex-Roux Scholar hopes to celebrate simplicity.

With no dress code, Squaremeal has not limited the top ten to convention as the kitchen is home to innovative dishes and has been ranked at number eight.

Paul Ainsworth at No. 6 - not to be confused by the ranking process - has been swept to number 22.

The Cornwall favourite sits behind restaurants from all over the nation.

From Myse, North Yorkshire, at number 10 to Lyla in Edinburgh.

JÖRO in South Yorkshire has combined an inspired blend of Nordic and Japanese influences.

Eight-years from opening, it continues to be a must-visit destination.

Foodie fans may be surprised by the list which goes up to 100, with well-known favourites like Le Manoir positioned at number 72.

Just four places above this sits the small but quaint Emilia in Ashburton.

The Italian boasts a unique style with a tiny kitchen, large table and scattered seating.
