Major bar chain with 4,500 sites abruptly shuts beloved pub just months after it was taken over by new management

A MAJOR bar chain with over 4,500 sites has suddenly shut one of its beloved locations.

Regulars at The Farmers, previously known as the Jolly Farmers, in Ormesby St Margaret, have expressed their disappointment at the abrupt closure.

This news surprised people because it comes only six months after the pub welcomed a new landlord.

The Stonegate pub has been mourned on Facebook, as say goodbye to their local boozer.

One person wrote: "Shame it’s a lovely place."

Another said: "Such a shame."

The Farmers ceased trading on New Year's Eve.

Stonegate has confirmed that they are recruiting for a new publican to run the business.

Ormsby St Margaret with Scratby Parish Council discussed the fate of The Farmers at a meeting on Monday.

The council agreed the venue was a valued asset for the village and said they would consider applying to make it an Asset of Community Value (ACV) at next month's meeting.

The Farmers was taken over by former staff members Harry Daisley and Tallulah Campfor-Wood last June.

Previously, the pub had closed in April.

It had undergone a £150,000 revamp in November 2021, which saw it fitted out with a new kitchen and new toilets.

This was when the name was changed from the Jolly Farmers to The Farmers.

The area has been facing several issues with pub closures in recent months.

Last week the landlords of the Lion pub, near Great Yarmouth seafront, announced they were planning to retire with the pub up for sale.

A venue called The Lion in Sommerton is on the market as villagers try to raise enough money to make an offer on the property.

Further afield, yet another Stonegate pub, The Bear and Bells in Old Market in Beccles, closed earlier this month.

Stonegate has also been facing issues with its chain.

In August, the Sun Inn, on Beccles Road in Bradwell, announced it was closing.

BOYZONE BUSINESS

The Sun has reported that Boyzone's Shane Lynch and his Real Housewives of Cheshire star wife Sheena has closed for good.

The D13 Irish bar in Knutsford, Cheshire closed after it was repossessed by the landlord.

No explanation has been given as to why the pub has closed.

Named after Shane's Dublin postcode D13, the pub first welcomed boozers in April 2021.

After just three years of business, it closed down for good on December 6, 2024.

Elsewhere, Wetherspoons has revealed a brand new menu change taking place next week, but it's only available for a limited time.

The budget chain is celebrating the Scottish holiday of Burns Night, by adding a range of classic dishes from the region to its menus.

The holiday, which takes place on January 25, celebrates the life of Scottish poet Robert Burns.

From Wednesday 22 until Tuesday 28 the no-frills pub and restaurant chain will be selling classics such as haggis with neeps and tatties and a Caledonian Burger.
