Boxing Day sales didn't give shops the much-needed lift they were expecting after many customers chose to stay at home.

But this year it seems making the trip in person could be worth the effort - if you're a Quality Street fan.

According to footfall data, shoppers avoided the High Street and centres compared with last year.

Data gathered by MRI Software showed footfall on UK high streets was down 6.2 percent on 2023, while shopping centres saw a 4.2 percent fall in visitors.

The data suggests that people prefer shopping online over hitting the shops.

This comes as Primark launched "seasonal sales" in some of its stores, offering shoppers up to 50 per cent off.

Eager shoppers form massive line for Selfridges Boxing Day Sales

The budget retailer prides itself on selling fashionware at affordable prices all year round.

For that reason, it doesn't run traditional seasonal Black Friday, Boxing Day or January sales.

But, Primark has confirmed to The Sun it does offer "seasonal markdowns throughout the year" - which in essence replicate January sales.

One Primark branch in Stratford, London, is offering shoppers reductions of up to 50% on accessories and winter clothing.

Some shoppers posting on Facebook are reporting stores in their local areas have slashed prices on products too, including clothing.
