Another reviewer said they were "astonished" by the results after trying several mould removers in the past without much success.

"I sprayed onto a stubborn mould patch in the corner of an exterior wall of our living room. I checked after 15 minutes and it was completely gone," they said.

Mrs Lea, who gave the product five stars, called the product "amazing" and said the new formula is "100 times better".

The spray appears to be cheapest at Tesco, where it can be bought for £2.

It's being sold for £2.50 at Dunelm, Wilko and The Range, or £2.99 at Lakeland - proving it's always worth shopping around for the best price.

Astonish says the product just needs "a few quick sprays" to get working and there is no need to scrub - just spray on, leave and wipe clean.

It is suitable for use on sealed ceramic tiles, painted walls, uPVC window frames, plastic shower curtains and other places where mould and mildew tend to gather.

However, you shouldn't use it on rubber, vinyl, damaged enamel, damaged paintwork, aluminium, copper, brass, chrome, silver or gold plating.

The product description says if you use it regularly, "you won't have to worry about it returning in a hurry".

Other products worth considering for a mould problem include the Kilrock brush on mould gel, sold for just £3.99 in Dunelm

This is a brush-on gel which should be left on trouble areas for up to 30 minutes before rinsing and then wiping with a cloth.

You may need to repeat for stubborn stains such as black spots, but within a couple of tries the gel should do the trick.

If you would prefer another spray-on option, there is also the HG Mould Spray which sells for the slightly higher price tag of £5.25 for a 500ml bottle at Asda

How to prevent mould in your home

Experts say that if you see any sign of damp or mould in your home, you should address it before it becomes a bigger problem.

The issue is usually caused by cooking, showering and drying clothes indoors without adequate ventilation - and it can be made worse by a poorly maintained, cold house.

You should keep your windows slightly cracked open, and open them more when showering.

If condensation forms on windows, wipe them down to stop mould from forming and spreading.

Make sure you run any extractor fans if you are showering or cooking in a windowless room.
