Supermarkets launch a huge range of mince pies every year with different flavours and toppings - and one is giving you the chance to try theirs for free.

Waitrose is giving customers the chance to claim a four-pack of their No.1 cranberry and orange mince pies with a crumble topping.

The supermarket says its mince pies have a deliciously crumbly butter pastry complimented by zingy mincemeat laced with Valencian orange oil and topped with a cranberry curd and a sweet crumble.

The mince pies normally retail at £4 a pack, but you can claim yours for free simply by downloading and registering for the My John Lewis app.

Shoppers can access a barcode via the app, which they scan at the checkout to have the price of the mince pies deducted from their bill.

Customers can only claim one box each and the offer will run until December 17, while stocks last.

Waitrose No.1 Brown Butter Mince Pies with Cognac were the winner of this year's Which? taste test and earned themselves a Best Buy recommendation.

The judges said the pies had "lovely pastry, an enticing aroma and generous nut, spice and citrus filling, with a subtle boozy warmth".

Meanwhile, The Sun's taste test crowned Morrison's rich and fruity mince pies champion.

Our tester said they had "a really Christmassy spiced taste, with plenty of fruit and citrus peel in the filling".

How to find the best bargains at the supermarket

If you're worried about your finances this Christmas use a price comparison site to find the best deals on festive essentials.

Trolley lets you compare prices on thousands of products across the major supermarkets and filter results from the least to most expensive.

Bear in mind it doesn't include prices from some retailers though, like Home Bargains and Lidl.

You can also have a quick scan of the internet with the Google Shopping/Product tab to see which retailer has the cheapest price on a specific product too.

Mince pies aren't the only Christmas item Which? has been testing.

It also tried supermarket own-brand Irish cream against Baileys – and the winner wasn't Aldi or M&S.

In other taste test news, we tried booze advent calendars – the festive winner was just £2 per drink.

Plus, we tested 12 festive sandwiches including Aldi and Starbucks – the winner was a hearty handheld Christmas dinner under £4.
