LOWEST PRICE: Always make sure you compare costs to get the best value. This is especially important with bigger purchases.

Use a comparison site such as price  or . You may also be able to get money codes — check my  or voucher .

CASHBACK: Before you buy, check if you can get some cashback from your purchases.

You may also be able to earn cashback through your debit or credit card. For example, the Halifax rewards account offers cashback when you shop with selected retailers.

Or you can use the Chase debit card, which you can get through the Chase app. You load it up with money and get one per cent cashback up to £180 a year.

The American Express everyday credit card offers a five per cent return on spending in the first five months of opening, up to a maximum of £125.

Just be sure to clear the balance each month or interest charges will quickly outweigh money earned.
