Theresa May blasts energy site uSwitch for hiding the best deals from families and charging them £120 MORE on bills
THE Prime Minister and consumer watchdogs blasted energy site uSwitch for hiding the best deals from users.
The Sun revealed this week it had been breaking the spirit of rules meant to protect consumers by not initially showing the cheapest offers.
Customers have to click on a separate box to get a full list of deals.
It meant some could have had to pay up to £120 more for energy on deals uSwitch recommended rather than less expensive ones.
The PM’s spokesman said: “Clearly this story is concerning. People visit price comparison websites to find the best deals and that is what they expect to find.”
And Gillian Guy from Citizens Advice — which has its own independent price comparison tool on its website — added: “Energy bills are a major drain on people’s finances.
“Sites like these need to make it crystal clear where they make commission on certain deals so that cash-strapped customers can decide whether or not they are getting the best value for money.
“Citizens Advice’s online comparison tool is completely independent and can help people make an informed choice based on suppliers’ prices and customer service.”
