Cheapest shop to buy fireworks this week – and it’s not Tesco or Sainsburys

IT'S that time of year again when the clocks have gone back and the dark nights are set to be lit up for one evening by fireworks.

With just a few days to go until Guy Fawkes night, it's not too late to start planning your display.

There are plenty of options available whether you are budget-conscious, or looking to splash the cash on a more extravagant display.

We've taken a closer look at what's on offer this year to find you the best value for cash on your sparklers, rockets and finale boxes.

So far, Aldi, Costco and Lidl have the best deals around.

Despite being one the biggest supermarket brands in the UK, Sainsburys hasn't sold fireworks in its stores since 2019, and Tesco does not have a range available online.

It's important to remember that fireworks can be dangerous - it's not all about the cheapest price.

You'll need to be 18 or older to buy fireworks and most retailers will only sell them to you in stores. Remember to bring your ID with you.

Aldi launched its firework range on Thursday October 17.

And while the discounter offers home delivery on most Specialbuys, you'll need to visit a store if you want to buy them.

Sparklers, £0.99: These sparklers come in packs of 12 meaning that each glow stick costs around 8p. They're each 10 inches long and emit a golden sparkle for up to 55 seconds each.

Razzle Dazzle rockets, £5.99: This loud and punchy 12 -shot aerial firework has been designed to provide inspiration, excitement and wonder. Lasting up to 22 seconds, it produces a silver, crackling and blinking strobing effect, with crisp lilac/blue and red bursting effects towards the finale.

Phoenix Rises box, £69.99: The Phoenix Rises Fireworks box is sure to end your display with a bang. Each box has 27 fireworks inside, ranging from a single shot to 96 shots, 5 larger sized rockets, 10 fountains and 1 wheel.

Costco - starting from £64.99

Costco is a bulk-buying store that lets shoppers save cash in the long-run by multi-buying, even if it means you have to stump up more money upfront.

Bulk-buying can make each item cheaper but remember it's only worth it if you're going to use them all, otherwise you're just wasting money.

You also have to be a member before you can shop there. It costs £15 a year for an online membership and £33.60 to shop in store.

But its fireworks are in store now.

Sparklers, £64.99: A box of 72 packs of sparklers will set you back almost £65. Each pack contains five 40cm sticks, which means you'll be getting 360 sparklers in total.

Black Cat Viper Rockets, £249.99: Costco is selling a pack of 18 rockets for just under £250. That makes each one around £13.

Black Cat Variety Fireworks Display Kit, £75.99: The retailer has a range of epic finale boxes that can cost up to £999.99. The cheapest is the , which contains 6 fountains, 5 multi-shot cakes, 1 Catherine wheel, 1 packet of rockets, 1 pack of shot tubes, 1 pack of 10 giant sparklers, 1 park of fireworks lighters and 300 shots.

Lidl - starting at £1.99

The discounter has stocked its fireworks range from October 15.

You won't be able to order them online so you'll need to head to your nearest store where you'll find them in the middle aisles.

Sparklers, £1.99: Lidl's giant sparklers are back this year. They come in packs of 12.

Rockets, £9.99: A pack of six standard Dyno rockets costs £9.99, making each firework cost £1.66. Effects include white glitter and crackle, red star with white glitter and lemon with white glitter

Standard Fireworks Supercharged box, £49.99: If you're looking for a crowd pleaser, the Standard Fireworks Supercharged box contains 90 shot single ignition fireworks that only need lighting once. You can expect effects such as blue starbursts with gold glitter stars and silver chrysanthemum crackles.

The 8 fire safety checks you should do in your home every night

TO avoid a devastating fire in your home, there are some checks you should be conducting every night, according to Gov.uk.

  • Close inside doors at night to stop a fire from spreading
  • Turn off and unplug electrical appliances unless they are designed to be left on – like your freezer.
  • Check your cooker is turned off
  • Don’t run appliances such as washing machines, tumble dryers and dishwashers overnight
  • Turn heaters off and put up fireguards
  • Put candles and cigarettes out properly
  • Make sure exits are kept clear
  • Keep door and window keys where everyone can find them

Every year, Bonfire Night falls on November 5, which is a Tuesday this year.
