EVERY LITTLE DOESN'T HELP

Tesco customers’ fury after price of click-and-collect goes up by £2

Shoppers have threatened to take their business elsewhere after the changes

Tesco customers have criticised the supermarket giant for changing click and collect charges

UNHAPPY Tesco customers have hit back at new charges introduced to the click and collect service.

Shoppers previously able to pick up their groceries for free are now charged between £2 and £4 for same day collection, while orders for the next day can be free or up to £2.

The change, introduced just four days ago, has since seen a backlash from customers claiming they had not been told of the extra charges.

Inundating social media, just one of the angry shoppers wrote: "Why am I suddenly being charged to collect my groceries from the store? If I wanted to pay I'd have them delivered!"

Under the new service, delivery slots range between being free of charge and £7 depending on time and day of the week.

One disgruntled customer took to social media, saying: “Tesco obviously don't like their customers that much.

“I just did my usual Click & Collect order to find I'm now being charged an additional £2.00.

“One of the main reasons I stayed with Tesco was because of this very small concession (when it was free), now I may as well save money and go to Morrisons, Lidl etc.

“Shame on Tesco for trying to squeeze their customers, no wonder you're customer base is falling.”

But Tesco said they had emailed all their customers to inform them on the changes, saying that the charges were designed to "better reflect" the service.

The supermarket giant last year launched a new same day click and collect service on grocery orders to compete with other services like that offered by Amazon.

But customers remained disgruntled, with one saying: “So when were you planning on telling your customers in Manchester that you are charging for collections???

“Go to order tonight and I now have to pay.

“Come on do not tell me you can't afford to carry the costs with your profits. So I guess I'm leaving you as a customer of over a decade and going else where. Disappointed with your lack of customer communication."

Many of the complaints were met with the same response on social media, with a representative writing: “From the way we pick your items to how we pack and deliver them, we’re always striving to give you unbeatable service.

“In order to keep the service to the high standard you expect, we are making some changes to collection prices,. However some slots are still free.”

But a customer noted the stock standard response, saying: “£2 charge for click and collect with no pre-warning. Standard copy and paste response from Tesco. Sneaky - not impressed.”

In introducing the changes, Tesco said that it had seen a 20 per cent increase in shoppers using its click and collect service in the last year and around 10 per cent of orders are now placed on the same day.

A Tesco spokesperson told The Sun Online: "The changes we are making to Click and Collect better reflect the lengths our colleagues go to picking and packing orders for our customers.

"We continue to offer a number of free next day Click + Collect slots, as well as home delivery slots from as little as £1. Next day Click and Collect slots remain free for members of our Delivery Saver scheme."
