The discount supermarket chain has launched a new range of scented candles which are very similar in style to Jo Malone

ALDI has launched a new range of scented candles - and it claims they smell EXACTLY like Jo Malone ones but at a 90 per cent discount.

The candles, which were created by the supermarket's team of expert perfumers, come in three scents - Pomegranate Noir, Freesia & Pear or Lime Basil & Mandarin - weighing 290g and cost £3.99 each.

Aldi claims that they are comparable to posh brand Jo Malone which sells a much larger range of scents but including some which are similar to the discount supermarket - at least in name.

Its prices start at £44 for a 200g, while a larger size luxury Jo Malone candle, weighing 2.5kg, costs £200.

Aldi claims its candles have a burning time of 48 hours versus the 45 hours quoted by the Jo Malone website.

The candles will be in Aldi stories from March 16 - in time for Mother's Day on March 26.

Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying at Aldi, said: “We believe that everyone should be able to afford the very best for their mums, without the luxury price tag.”

John Davis at European Flavours & Fragrances (EFF), Aldi’s fragrance house, said: “Not only do Aldi’s premium candles equal the quality, strength and performance of high-end alternatives, but they are significantly larger than their premium counterparts meaning the fragrance is likely to be stronger, too.”

It's not the first time that Aldi has sold copycat versions of luxury products.

Last month, The Sun Online reported on a new Aldi floor lamp which looks almost identical to one sold by John Lewis.

It follows the success of the Aldi’s marble and copper-effect vintage floor lamp last year, which was praised by interior styling experts for their luxury appearance and low price tag.

Just before Christmas Aldi launched a range of hampers which looked very similar to luxury retailer Fortnum & Mason – but with a price tag that was £126 cheaper.

While Aldi’s LED Christmas advent calender cost just £8.99 and it looked very similar to a version from Harrods that cost £65.
